Envelope
Envelope, also Envelop(e), is a short story in pictures and very few words available on fredart.com by Fred Gallagher. It is based on the way dating sims work, and it looks very much like pages form one of those games. There is a picture which does most of the work of explaining the story, and very few words of text along the bottom. A few pages lack text altogether.
If there is a theme to this story, it might best be as expressed as "You don't know what you've got till it's gone."
Like most of Fred's other work, it also deals with issues of perception, value and exchange. Perception is the major issue in this story, and while very little actually changes during the course of events, most of which are trivial, the perception of the main character changes a great deal during the course of the story, which changes the reality a great deal from inside, even though from an outsider's perspective, nothing changed at all.
