Shirt Guy Dom

Shirt Guy Dom strips (or, more commonly, SGDs) are a type of non-story strip. With only a few rare exceptions, these strips are are written and drawn entirely by Megatokyo's editor, Dominic Nguyen. In the early days of the comic, SGDs were drawn with a trackball. Today, however, he has moved on to bigger and better things: An optical mouse. Nevertheless, it is the trackball which has become forever imprinted upon the minds of Megatokyo readers.

SGDs, like DPDs, are usually unplanned interruptions in the comic. They appear when Fred just can't meet the comic deadline, for whatever reason, and finds himself completely unable to produce any artwork in time for the scheduled update. On rare occasions, Fred has actually planned SGDs in advance but, normally, Dom is given very little notice when instructed to create an SGD.

The name "Shirt Guy Dom" is a reference to an individual affiliated with Sluggy Freelance, Shirt Guy Tom. He's the person who is (or was, at one time) in charge of shirts there, and he created some stick figure filler strips for their site.

The story of Shirt Guy Dom's origins is provided by Dom himself in Megatokyo Volume 1 on page 99:

Ah, the early days of MT. The saga of the shirt guy starts with Largo, who gets tired of people asking him about our newly opened t-shirt store, and says "All questions go to Shirt Guy Dom". So, I'm the shirt guy. I shrug it off, since it doesn't matter to me. Then one night Piro can't finish the comic on time, and I get a message from Largo around an hour before we're scheduled to update. "We need the shirt guy to do stick figures", it says. I realized that it would make people suffer, and the rest is history. We haven't been sued by Sluggy Freelance yet, so I'd consider it a success.
